Foundation
1880 - Savigliano was set up in the wake of the enthusiasm and expectations
related to the Country's vigorous industrialisation process after
conquering its national identity.
From that moment, its history was an integral part of the Italian
industrial development that followed and often anticipated in terms
of diversification and specialisation, two main orientations:
-
medium/big mechanics
-
electromechanics
Its activity, based on cutting-edge products and technologies, has
acquired over the years a growing consensus, both in Italy and abroad,
and has developed in the following way:
-
At the beginning, design and construction of railway material.
-
Later, power and distribution transformers, hydraulic and steam
generators, all kinds of motors.
- Over
the last few years, railway traction, complex lifting systems,
hydraulic barrage, generation and offtake plants, civil and industrial
constructions in metal structure and so on.
Among the most famous achievements we can mention the metal structure
of the Centrale Station of Milan, the Paterno sull'Adda bridge,
completed in 1889 and still working, the transmission system of
the electric energy of the central regions of New Zealand, the rotating
bridge of Taranto and the E444 -Tartaruga - locomotive.
A
new function
In 1976, within the scenario of a radical rationalisation of the
Italian electromechanical activities, Savigliano, under the guidance
of General Electric, majority shareholder, accepted the role of
promoting the service activity in the mechanical and electromechanical
segment.
The reasons of this choice are based on two considerations: the
urgent request of the market to have a Company able to meet very
special requirements related to the services, which the production-oriented
companies could not take on themselves;
the existence of a very diversified, functional and versatile organisational
and production structure having a high technological level.
